Research publication and metrics reporting pipeline

Badger, Ian (2026) Research publication and metrics reporting pipeline. [Data Collection]

Description

The Research Publication and Metrics Reporting Pipeline is a research software workflow developed at the University of Kent to transform institutional repository data into enriched research metrics and reporting outputs.

The pipeline combines publication and author data from Kent Academic Repository (KAR) with information from OpenAlex and Scopus. It supports reporting at University, School and REF Unit of Assessment (UoA) level and produces the data used for the Research Publication and Metrics Reports and a Power BI-ready dataset for the Research Publication and Metrics Dashboard.

The workflow includes OpenAlex enrichment, author-to-UoA matching, citation and journal metrics from OpenAlex and Scopus, collaboration and subject analysis, School and UoA reporting, and generation of formatted Excel reports and visualisations.

The deposited package contains the Python scripts and supporting documentation required to understand, install and adapt the workflow. Institutional source data, generated metrics datasets and API credentials are not included. Although developed and validated using University of Kent data, the pipeline is intended as an adaptable model for institutions wishing to combine repository metadata with external research information sources.
